Riverside Luxury Cruises is a luxury European river cruise line that launched in 2023, sailing three all-suite ships — Riverside Mozart on the Danube, Riverside Debussy on the Rhine, and Riverside Ravel on the Rhône and Saône. Its distinguishing feature is that every guest, in every suite category, has a personal butler — not just the top suites. Fares include unlimited shore excursions, all dining across five venues, premium wines and spirits, Starlink Wi-Fi, gratuities and airport transfers. The ships are the former Crystal River Cruises fleet, and journeys run from three to fourteen nights.
Why Riverside
Every river cruise brochure says "luxury". These are the specific, checkable ways Riverside is built differently from the rest of the category.
Riverside is the only European river line where butler service comes with every category. Your butler unpacks and packs for you, handles laundry, books the spa and the restaurants, and serves dinner in your suite if you would rather not dress.
Everyone else On most luxury river lines a butler is reserved for the top two or three suite categories — if it is offered at all.
Every accommodation is a suite, from roughly 190 sq ft up to the 883 sq ft two-bedroom Owner’s Suite. King beds, walk-in closets and marble bathrooms with double vanities are standard in every category — not upgrades.
Everyone else Premium river lines typically offer suites in only 4–33% of their inventory; on mass-market river ships it is under 9%.
With 110 guests on Debussy and Ravel and about 154 on Mozart, Riverside carries roughly one crew member per two guests — the kind of ratio normally found on ultra-luxury ocean yachts, on a ship that fits through a lock.
Everyone else Five-star river competitors run closer to 2 crew per 5–6 guests; four-star lines, 2 per 6–8.
Five dining venues on a ship this small, with no fixed seating times, no assigned tables, and plenty of tables for two. Everything is prepared à la minute rather than plated in advance — which is why the food keeps winning awards.
Everyone else Premium river ships usually have two or three venues; mass-market ships have one or two, on a fixed dinner seating.
Unlimited guided excursions, with a choice of active or leisurely options most days, plus premium wines and spirits, Starlink Wi-Fi, all gratuities and airport transfers. The bill at the end of the week is, for most guests, nothing.
Everyone else Many luxury river fares include one excursion per port and sell the rest à la carte, alongside drinks packages and daily service charges.
Riverside sells 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 11 and 14-night journeys, and they can be linked back to back into one longer trip. It makes a first river cruise easy to try, and a serious one easy to extend.
Everyone else Most river lines start at seven nights and stop there, which forces the whole trip to fit one fixed template.

A small fleet, deliberately. Each ship stays on its own river, so the crew know the ports, the pilots and the vintners rather than repositioning across a continent every season.

The widest ship on the Danube — roughly double the beam of a conventional river vessel, which is why she can carry a pool, a full spa and the largest suites on the river without ever feeling narrow.

How it compares
We will not pretend Riverside is the only good option. Here is where it stands against the lines you are almost certainly also considering.
Uniworld’s boutique-hotel interiors and all-inclusive fares are the closest match. Riverside counters with butler service in every category, bigger average suites and 3-night journeys Uniworld does not sell.
Scenic bundles e-bikes and its Sundowner balcony system across a much larger fleet and far more rivers. Riverside sails only three ships — smaller, with a higher crew ratio and larger suites.
AmaWaterways is the stronger active and wellness programme, with bike fleets and hiking tiers. Riverside is the more indulgent ship: butler service, larger suites, five dining venues.
Viking has far more ships, dates and itineraries, at a lower fare. But Viking includes one excursion per port and charges for drinks packages; Riverside includes unlimited excursions, premium drinks and a butler.
Tauck’s guiding and land programming is the benchmark in the category, with more staff ashore. Riverside is the stronger ship experience — bigger suites, better crew ratio, more dining venues.
They are the same ships. Riverside bought the Crystal river fleet after Crystal collapsed and relaunched them in 2023 — so the hardware guests loved survives, under new ownership and a new service model.
